Pro-Bono legal support.
A meaningful share of our practice is reserved for taxpayers who could not otherwise afford representation in their CRA dispute.
Access to tax counsel should not depend only on means.
The Canadian tax dispute system is complex. The deadlines are tight, the rules are unforgiving, and the consequences of going unrepresented can be severe. For taxpayers without the means to retain counsel, that combination can be devastating.
Taxpayer Law accepts a number of pro bono files each year. Selected matters typically involve individual taxpayers facing reassessments that would impose serious financial hardship and that have a reasonable basis for challenge. Priority is given to matters where the deadlines are imminent and where the taxpayer has no realistic alternative source of representation.
We also work with public legal clinics and pro bono organizations on referrals.
Requesting pro-bono assistance
To enquire about pro bono representation, please email info@taxpayer.law with a brief description of your situation, the deadlines that are running, and any prior CRA correspondence. We respond to every enquiry, even where we are unable to take the file.
Your CRA file deserves serious counsel.
Whether you have just received an audit letter or you are weeks away from a Tax Court hearing, we can help. Initial consultations are confidential and we work with clients across Canada.
